Most ungroomed at Purg was in pretty rough shape. The front face of Pandemonium, Hades, and Styk were only theoretically skiable. You could see a path of white down, but in places would require riding the top of a bumpline with the troughs melted out. Pandemonium had an area where it looked like the only base was the 7" of unconsolidated snow that fell the prior 2 days that ran from edge to edge of the run.
Ungroomed stuff under 3 was better, but tough to ski fluidly. Under the new snow, Deadspike was a mix of suncups, random moguls (most had been eaten away by sun and wind) and thin snow sections where underlying terrain variations made things.. Lumpy.
Snag was better covered but the bottom pitch was thin snow and did not look appetizing.
The best skiing was the groomed stuff off of 3, which yielded fresh tracks for many hours given that nobody was there.
Side note- At the base of 3, I noted a ski patrol snowmobile waiting with a patroller and guy riding in back. His friends ski up, and I hear they are all from Oklahoma City and had driven through the night to go ski for free. The guy riding the snowmobile went out on DeadSpike and tapped out and called patrol. Stated he wasn't injured, but couldn't ski the run and just wanted to go back to the base and drink beer. So, Purgatory did attract a few folks...
