Looks like the big changes for 2017 will be that chair 6 at Purg will get a mid-load (almost certainly recycling the old chair 8 mid) to allow lapping the park and race course. Makes sense, and I guess that means 6 will get more use. After the install of the 6 pack it runs only a couple days a season, and top to bottom it is pretty pokey.

Hesperus gets more lights and the rope tow back. No word on snowmaking or lifts, and Sipapu gets the lodge completed.

Snowbowl is getting a new lodge and a new lift in the beginner area. Not sure which of those is happening this summer. Awesome to see the investments continue.

The beginner area lift is sorely sorely needed.

Is there a published source for the Coleman resorts updates?

Still a bit of love for the area. 10 day EC Snowcast.

Very stormy in NM yesterday and today. Looks like both Ski Santa Fe and Taos got gobs of snow from this. Top amounts should be close to 18" or even more. Too bad they are closed. The skiing should be superb. Wow.

I pulled the trigger today for the powerpass and hopefully we can meetup next season. I'm investigating getting my kids involved in the ski program so I could possibly be up there most weekends (appreciate the info @Core2). I've read up on Coleman with the helpful links and it feels so much better to support him and Snowbowl. He seems to care and with the recent shenanigans, I don't have to look behind me with Robert Katz holding the KY.

Not a bad little powder day for April 29th. It was very empty, despite free lift tickets. It kind of shows the difficulty ski areas have in running an extended season when people won't come for free...

I made it up to Snowbowl for an hour of laps over the weekend. All the regularly ungroomed stuff is pretty much done. They farmed Blackjack for snow to build run outs to the bottom lift terminals. The top of the mountain skied pretty well, good corn was had. I might head up next weekend and get some more slush skiing in. Awesome season end!

Most ungroomed at Purg was in pretty rough shape. The front face of Pandemonium, Hades, and Styk were only theoretically skiable. You could see a path of white down, but in places would require riding the top of a bumpline with the troughs melted out. Pandemonium had an area where it looked like the only base was the 7" of unconsolidated snow that fell the prior 2 days that ran from edge to edge of the run.

Ungroomed stuff under 3 was better, but tough to ski fluidly. Under the new snow, Deadspike was a mix of suncups, random moguls (most had been eaten away by sun and wind) and thin snow sections where underlying terrain variations made things.. Lumpy.

Snag was better covered but the bottom pitch was thin snow and did not look appetizing.

The best skiing was the groomed stuff off of 3, which yielded fresh tracks for many hours given that nobody was there.

Side note- At the base of 3, I noted a ski patrol snowmobile waiting with a patroller and guy riding in back. His friends ski up, and I hear they are all from Oklahoma City and had driven through the night to go ski for free. The guy riding the snowmobile went out on DeadSpike and tapped out and called patrol. Stated he wasn't injured, but couldn't ski the run and just wanted to go back to the base and drink beer. So, Purgatory did attract a few folks...

was just thinking yesterday how it has been a while since I've seen any @raisingarizona pics or vids.

I haven't skied in well over a month! I'm deep into my microbiology course and I just took my HESI (nursing school entry exam) last week. My grades were slipping in February! I had to play a little bit catch-up. :) I got in around 75 days though and I'm fully satisfied.

Fantastic closing weekend at Snowbowl. The top of the mountain skied really well from Upper Ridge down through Volcano, and the slush bumps on Casino were a blast. The staff have done a great job keeping the resort open into May.
