For fun and for a bit of education for the younger generation and newer skiers, finish the statement with things your remember about skiing or anything ski related.

    Examples:
I remember when ... lift tickets at vail were $7.50.

I remember when ... it was cool to wear neon pink.

I remember when ... we carved our ski poles out of stone.

I remember skiing powder in the trees at Steamboat on 198cm skis that were about 62mm underfoot.

I remember that 198cm skis weren't all that long.

I remember that those days sucked compared to modern equipment.

I remember when purple and teal were cool

When helmets for skiing didn't exist

Rear entry boots were the norm, fronts were a pain

When we actually had cold, long winters

When 250' of vertical was a fun playground

I remember when bindings had to be engaged by hand (plastic heel piece with two cables attached to the side, don't know what they were called) and we longed for the fancy new step in bindings that the older cool kids had.

I remember Stratton in the early 70's when we would spend an hour helping to clean up the base lodge in return for the next day's lift ticket.

I remember helping to pack slopes by side stepping up and down them.

I remember when........There were no ski brakes and you got the snot beat and cut out of you windmilling down steep icy mogul fields with those wonderful leases around your boot. Why?, because I remember when........Nothing was groomed

    • Rocket...most of the mountain was not open at night
    • The Hump Was a gladed trail
    • The Asp had turns in it
    • Sullivan Lift has a pole eating mid station.
    • There were "All night skis"
    • Before the Bailey and Stevenson lift were installed

I remember as little kid.......hard leather boots with spring bindings. Probably a tad old fission even at the time but we didn't know anything else and that's what my dad could afford.
I remember when my dad had to watch and keep after all four of us at the same time by himself. (3 boys and a girl)
I remember our frozen wet toes painfully throbbing as we sat in the car and let the heat hit them after we took off our soaking wet old leather boots.
I remember when first hiting an 800 foot hill thinking this place is huge vs the 250 footer (craigmuere) we learned and skied at.
I remember (as a teen) driving up nights after school with my brothers to ski dimly lit boiler plate ice at that same hill.

Man.......we really had to love this sport in order to stay with it.

How about when you could ski from the Birches all the way across the mountain, I think you went thru a tunnel say one point and over a trail via a bridge at another (that was mid 70's, I think) and you'd end up over by something beyond Honeymoon. (My brain is going to mush, need to drag out the old map.) I remember a friend saying to me, "Congratulations, we've skied for miles without ever going downhill."

    Found a map online:

I remember fiddling with screwed-in edges, trying to replace a blown out section.

I remember when we threw a lever on the shovel of the ski to lock our heels.

I remember when vinyl laceups were the new big thing, as waterproofier than leather.

I remember when herringboning up the slope was the first thing all skiers were taught.

I remember when skis with metal in them were not recommended - because they would *break* on anything other than ice.

I remember when there was a real danger your boots would punch into your honeycomb skis if you even thought about jumping.

Oddly enough, I remember having more fun.
