The train car where the Armistice was signed in France in 1918 was later hauled out by Hitler and used for signing the Armistice with France in 1940. The car then went to Berlin to be put on display during WW2. Supposedly the SS destroyed it in 1945 rather then have it used again for a surrender.

12 years old, we were in Madison, WI. Dad was going to take me on 1st deer hunt that afternoon.
Our plans changed that minute.
It was a very dark day for all.

I was home from school that day. I heard the news as it broke on TV. At first, there was an interruption for a special bulletin. Shots were fired in Dallas. The President and Governor cut down, Jackie clutching/holding Jack. Motorcade speeding to Parkland Hospital. Then, a return to programming. I think within the hour, the grim announcement was made. My mother and I had Walter Cronkite on by then. The entire nation grieved that day so profoundly that a nine-year-old could feel it. It's all a blur, yet a poignant clarity often haunts me still.

I was in Denver working at Christy Sports on West Colfax, maybe only me and Andy in the shop, and my then wife called to give me the news. No radio or TV in the store so had to wait until after I closed-up for the day and got home to catch up on the news.
