At that point you just have lists like this:

Italy
Austria
Germany
France
I travelled extensively through out eastern Europe in the 70's, so if we are making European travel lists I'm adding the DDR and taking 11 extra credits for other countries visited which didn't exist then.

I don't know, that might be worth more than 11 credits for skiing behind the "iron curtain"! :ogcool:

The updated list..... added several new resorts in Japan this season and 2 operations in Kyrgyzstan. That brings the total to 18 countries and 103 ski areas. I'll definitely be adding to that in 2024 with a trip to Kazakhstan and then in 2025 Turkey for a multi-resort trip. I need to branch further into South America and there could be more resorts in NZ soon. Plenty of opportunity to add to this list.....

Revising the previous count up to 93. The list of North American resorts that I have been using listed Squaw and Alpine Meadows together. I first skied them when they were separate entities.

Since the 2023 Taos Mini Gathering I added 4 more, bringing me to 97.

I expect to add 1 more (Diamond Peak) at the National Gathering.
Need to find 2 more opportunities to get into triple digits.

I took them as two. Also Slide Mountain and Mt. Rose. One area now bit skied them separately. Got to get the #s!

My list is embarrassingly short but I was able to bump my vote to 20+ after last season's visits to Snowbasin and Sundance.

Looking forward to adding a few this season on my welcome to retirement epic road. We hope to ski Sun Valley, Big Sky, Grand Targhee, Jackson Hole and Aspen/Snowmass.

The list I can recall .... 17 so far, of which 3 are defunct.

Minnesota
  • Marthaler Park (a single rope tow and two lighted runs, now defunct) - great for 7 year old me!
  • Inver Hills (a smallish T-bar/poma/rope tow area, maybe 10 runs, now defunct)
  • Afton Alps
  • Birch Park
  • Welch Village
  • Wild Mountain
  • Lutsen
Wisconsin
  • Snowcrest / Birch Park (now defunct)
Oregon
  • Mount Hood
New York
  • Greek Peak (nearby to grad school; traded a free marketing research project for lift tickets one season!)
Colorado
  • Breckenridge
  • Vail
  • Keystone
Tahoe / California / Nevada
  • Northstar
  • Heavenly
  • Sugar Bowl
  • Palisades / Alpine
On the bucket list?
  • Whistler / Blackcomb
  • Kirkwood (it's even on my pass, just super inconvenient from the North Shore)
  • Jackson Hole
  • Val d'Isere / somewhere in the French / Swiss alps

Managed the access. Everyone can view now:
How do you decide how to mark things? For instance, for the 3 Valleys... I guess you could just put 1 marker, or choose to put one for each village? Maybe just mark where you've stayed? (Looks like just 1 marker for that one on your map, but others are a similar choice, right?)

I started skiiing around 1965 and then basically took 40 years off starting in the mid '80s. I have no idea which places I've been to.

Last year I was looking at a list of abandonded/closed ski areas and found quite a few in the Midwest that I had forgotten even existed, but I had skied there!

That said, my list is much shorter than a lot of you guys anywhos.

One pin for every ski area. A ski area is a set of interconnected runs and lifts (my definition). A ski area may incorporate more than one village (such as Les Trois Vallées, for example). A ski area may not actually include a single village at all (although that rarely is the case in the Alps).

To keep it simple: whether you stay in Val Thorens or in Méribel Centre, you still will have skied the same ski area: Les Trois Vallées.

What about Dolomiti Superski? Doesn't that cover an awful lot of the Dolomites as one "ski area"? Or is it less interconnected than I'm thinking?

Only 500 km is actually interconnected: the Salla Ronda. Everything else is bits and pieces that are ski areas in their own right in my definition.

This map shows that clearly: the Sella Ronda at the top-left of the picture.
