Just bought new skis and figure should set them up right. My first step is to check base flatness. I found this on racecar.com. it's tubular:

Hands down the best accuracy and utility for the buck is a length of 1/2 inch or 5/8ths High Speed Steel lathe tool .
Very often available on ebay or the like. I have several, they will NEVER wear out, offer four corners and four surfaces. Flat as the day is long.

GET ONE Avoid the "sports market " mark up. You know, 100% from maker to distributor, then 100% to the retailer.

HSS will do all you want, Including scraping wax and P-tex.
