Anyone who saw my "horror feet" thread will understand why I'm willing to drop a grand on custom hiking (everyday wear) leather boots. I made the journey up to check things out and make sure they could accommodate me... now to wait two years for them to finish!

Here's some snaps. Peter and his 38-year old apprentice Adam Lane-Olsen (who used to coach at Buck Hill). Check out their website: http://www.limmercustomboot.com

I was almost tempted to ask for a squared toe and to drill 3-pin holes but.... still can!

These guys make some serious boots. Just reading about the break-in period might be enough to scare most people away.

Probably my late father's most prized possession. Made for him by Peter's father. Travelled to hike in them all over the world. Absolute work of art.

@Frankly, they are going to be worth every dime, and the wait!

Adam is the guy who blows us all out of the water at my weekly beer league. Didn't know he worked at Limmer. Thinking maybe he should fit my next pair of alpine boots.

Nice!
Years ago I had White's work boots out of Spokane. They got famous with their Smoke Jumper and calked (spiked) logging boots. Everyone has copied them. Most models have a quite high heel drop and heel overhang for riding.

I don't know what happened to them. But... it's a lot of laces!

Reminds me of a funny story, probably late 80's early 90's. We drove out from LA past Santa Barbara to a trail riding place near where Reagan's ranch was. None of us were real riders. So we're late to arrive and the wrangler who we're about to spend half a day with is just spitting disdain for the city idiots. Up walks my friend from parking the car wearing his White's boots. Well this guy's attitude totally changed! They started talking boots, and were fast friends. The rest of is remained suspect but at least were well tolerated.

I still have a pair of White's that I use for riding. They are a damn fine boot.

Wow. What an operation! I would love to just go to the shop & watch what they do. That kind of craftsmanship is becoming a lost art.

Even though I lived in Oregon I never came across Whites but as a marketing guy I did some work for https://www.pwminor.com (they make the Civil War era lady's heeled boots like Susan B Anthony would have owned) and did a proposal for http://www.russellmoccasin.com who make moccasin style hunting and motorcycle boots (some can be nice looking). There are a lot of fine custom boot and shoe makers left, and some larger companies that do a sort-of custom like https://www.wescoboots.com.

However in the end there is "custom" as in, "This is the way we've always done it" so it's OUR custom. And there are a few truly service orientated craftspeople who understand that "custom" is for the customer ;-p

Bound to be a hit at your next Après-ski: https://www.boot.com/bwbossbg.htm

What was the process of getting fitted? Did the pull out their wooden lasts and make notes to modify what they had?

For me, since I live in the Midwest, it was drawing an outline of my feet, followed up with taking about 5 or 6 circumference measurements at various locations on both feet.

I've worn custom-fit Whites since the mid-70s, including over 30 years of fighting wildfires. These days I wear them for trail work at the ski area and other woods work like firewood. I've often wished I had ski boots that fit like my Whites.

A while ago a lady that owns a high-end fancy-pants shoe store here in Santa Fe fell in love with my Whites so I gave her an older pair (I had two) and she used them in her window display.

I'd love to get some Limmers.

Yeah they measure my feet and intended footbeds, then I go back in a couple of years right before they're finished for fine tuning bumps and such.
