We are in the "make an appointment" mode right now. Everything else was fine. I emailed the notarized stuff and got the approval later that day. FAST! Now, it's over a month for meeting with a buyback specialist. Absolutely ridiculous. I went to the dealer yesterday to kick tires and the buyback lady was there, no one in her office, so I talked to her for about the amount of time she said it would take to complete the transaction that I have to make an appointment for. VW really needs to get some more folks on the floor to do the buyback. Making customers wait another month plus is just not good when you're trying to dig yourself out of a deep hole.

Almost there. Interesting how the experiences differ. It's been a long process for us but we are in no hurry to give up the car. At least we have to turn it in empty and the mileage is so good that it will take a while. I'm bummed that we are forced to give the car up. Soon though, we are in the appointment mode. Life is busy so not sure exactly when.

I've got the offer letter but have held off on responding. Since the offer is the same regardless of when you turn in the car, my thought is to drive it as long as possible for "free".
Since we need to do this by Sept. 2018, anyone got a good sense of when it makes sense to establish the appointment?

Right now it's about 1 month out for numerous dealers between Reno and the Bay Area. There is nothing on the appointment calendars past July. I'm guessing they're waiting to see how many people come in before they start more appointment times.

Overdue as the TDI was falling apart.
Wouldn't hold a charge and local mechanics couldn't fix it. The radio and mmi went blank months ago and moved on to a Q5 almost a year ago.
The turd just sat in the driveway costing insurance

Good bye VW - two Quattros baby !

Finally started the process today. Thinking April or June for the actually return of the car. Official offer is a little less than I anticipated.

As time wears on and a fix has come out for the '15s, I'm starting to think about just taking the oops-sorry money and keeping the car and getting the fix. We have a '14 Passat so it already has the AdBlue. Should be computer fixes and then some hardware down the road. If we sell the car back, we'll pay off the remainder of the loan but then have to get into a new car along with the increase in insurance and registration. We are looking hard at the Alltrack but the mileage just sucks after driving a TDI. Our Passat has about 42K on it. We still have the extended warranty plus whatever warranty covers the "fix". We like the car and it does everything we need it to do. Might just take the money, pay it off, and be done with it.

It appears if you choose "the fix" you don't get the restitution money until AFTER the fix. Currently, there is no fix for Gen 1 and 2 engines. So I wonder what happens if they don't come up with a fix?

Has anyone been contacted by Bosch? Apparently they are also going to be "donating" to the cause. $350 for 2.0 engines and $1250 for 3.0's. One guy on the Turbo Diesel Register site said he received an email.

Bosch e-mail:

To Whom It May Concern,

This is an Important, Court-Approved Notice About a Class Action Settlement

You are receiving this email notice because you are a current or former owner/lessee of a 2.0-liter TDI Volkswagen or Audi vehicle. You may be eligible to receive an additional payment from a settlement with Bosch, another defendant in the same lawsuit (“Bosch Settlement”). Your payment could be up to $350 in addition to what you may be eligible to receive from the 2.0-liter Settlement with Volkswagen/Audi (“2.0-liter Settlement”).

What Are My Rights? What Do I Need To Do?
  • If you already filed, or if you file in the future, an approved claim in the 2.0-liter Settlement, you will automatically receive a payment through the Bosch Settlement. Go to www.VWCourtSettlement.com to file a claim online any time before September 1, 2018.
  • If you have excluded yourself from the 2.0-liter Settlement, you can still file a claim in the Bosch Settlement until August 15, 2017.
  • If you are an Eligible Seller and missed the Identification Deadline in the 2.0-liter Settlement, you have until May 1, 2017 to file a claim in the Bosch Settlement.
  • If you do not file a claim in the 2.0-liter settlement, you can still file a claim in the Bosch Settlement until December 31, 2019.
  • You can object to or exclude yourself from the Bosch Settlement by April 14, 2017. If you do not exclude yourself from the Bosch Settlement, you will not be able to sue Bosch separately for the claims this Settlement resolves.
  • Any exclusion request or objection you submitted for the 2.0-liter Settlement has no effect in the Bosch Settlement, except that you will have to submit a claim form in the Bosch Settlement, available at www.BoschVWSettlement.com, before September 1, 2018 to receive benefits.
  • The Court will hold a hearing on May 11, 2017 to consider whether to grant final approval to the Bosch Settlement.
  • Attorneys representing the class will request Court approval of attorneys’ fees and costs. Those fees and costs will be paid from the settlement fund.
  • Visit www.BoschVWSettlement.com or contact a representative of the Claims Administrator, toll-free, Monday through Friday, except for recognized holidays, at 1-844-305-1928, for more details on the Bosch Settlement and your rights and options.
Sincerely,

Bosch Settlement

Funny just got the postcard in the mail today. If I hadn't seen the post I might have tossed it out.

Probably based on mileage, etc like the VW settlement. Looks like if you register for the VW settlement already you don't need to do anything.

Jane just got the Bosch notice. A gift that keeps on giving. Meanwhile, we love the 17 Forester. It may get a workout on Tuesday with the first decent snow of the season in Philly.

The Jetta is gone. Sigh. Awesome car - but they had to cheat to make it. We got paid well.

Got the Mustang running today. My son replaced the timing chain. Didn't get the harmonic balancer torqued enough so the chain popped off. Redo on the job today was a success! We drove to dinner in it. Modern cars are pretty good. Not as much style but a lot more utility. The Mustang is not the Jetta - in both the good ways and the bad ways.

Note that our Jetta was a project. Successfully completed and it was a great driver that looked good. It did have a salvage title but VW didn't screw us because of that. I'm not sure if we got a discount on the offer but if we did, it wasn't much. We learned a lot with it.

The Mustang is turning into another learning experience.

I'm too old to learn stuff. Maybe I shouldn't do the crazy boat reengine project I have planned.

I drove our Passat TDI to Tucson from Reno and back last week. Averaged about 48 mpg. Lots of space in the car, comfortable seats (did the drive down in one day, 15 hours). I think we'll keep it for sure.
