Friday October 20 drove up to Hope Valley in Toiyabe National Forest after the Friday wee hours storm left several inches of fresh snow. That valley on the Carson River just south of the Lake Tahoe basin and east of Kirkwood Ski Resort is at about 7000 feet and is usually one of the last of our quaking aspen areas where fall leaf color change occurs. Thus spent a few hours working close-up images of aspen leaves atop fresh snow, a wonderously colorful yellow, orange, and white, Candy Cane world.
The snow much like the September 20 storm will mostly melt off as ground temperatures are still too warm for skiing. However each storm cools ground areas more leaving a wet ground surface that at this time of year tends to remain frozen due to cold night temperatures.
