I don't shut my main house off at the service entrance, but my summer house I installed a quarter turn shut off for the main service entrance. We shut it off every time when heading home after a visit. I also have the T-handle to shut it off at the street but rarely use it, I probably should because the main coming from the street is at least 60 year old 3/4 cooper pipe.
