I realise there are a couple of Aussies and Kiwis around these forums. So to continue the Epicski thread...

Ooh! OK, looks like my thread on epic isn't going far this year so I'l be posting some stuff here.

Looks like we'll miss opening weekend this year for the first time in about six or seven years. Demo weekend in Thredbo is 8th and 9th July, so we'll be down for that. A week through August is planned, and probably another weekend as well.

We've had a couple of (very) early snowfalls, so fingers crossed for a good season.

Jellybeans1000 is a great weather forecaster. Love your Japanese forecasts, Arigato gozaimasu. Here's hoping for an amazing season down this way. Due one.
Thanks a lot. Hopefully this season down under is going to be good.

Hi from Brisbane. We're on the Mountain Collective so will be having a few days in Thredbo and Queenstown this winter before traveling to The States just after Christmas for a road trip that will likely take on Jackson, Salt Lake, Taho and Mammoth.
Last year we skied a long weekend in August at Thredbo and had the best (cold and dry) snow I've experienced in Oz or NZ ever.
Hoping for the same this year!

Thredbo is celebrating its 60 year anniversary this year. Here's a brief retrospective from Frank Prihoda who was around even before the start, and has been around ever since.

Frank's own story (as well as his sister's, rest her soul) is worthy of an entire thread. Frank defected from Czechoslovakia via a stealthy route, skiing over the mountains. They came to Australia and discovered, much to their surprise, that there was snow over here. Olympian at the 1956 games (Cortina d'Ampezzo) for Australia. They started one of Thredbo's earliest ski lodges and have been involved ever since.

QBW doesn't have much skiing anyway, especially at Thredbo.
The 3-5 weeks after the July School Holidays is the best time for resort skiing IMO.

I'm thinking June 1-6 for another snow event at the moment.
Have got 19 definite days (albeit half of that in the school holidays:() on the snow at Buller and potentially 6 more days. And that doesn't even count September, will have to wait and see with the conditions. The vibe is increasing. Looking forward to a hopefully good season.

I have 42 days booked. Hope to add to that if the snow plays ball in June and September.

Great weekend up here at Falls. Lodge all prepped for winter.

Still some late building activity going on, though (theoretically) it should be finished by tomorrow according to local regs. Apart from that, the ville is all but deserted - tumbleweeds in the streets.

Some summer slope grooming, but no other ski-related improvements. Resort Management more focussed on summer mountain-biking than winter, though the winter customers will be paying for the bulk of it. Sigh!

Here's another episode of "word from the locals" in what looks to be a regular series as Thredbo turns 60. This time it's Randy who arrived back in the hotdogging / ballet days and has stayed the course.

Snow in the forecast for this coming weekend. Just a few inches but it'll be a start.
Just a few inches? I am looking at a foot+ of snow for next week. Two very cold systems... Should get the resorts ready for Queens Birthday a Weekend.

Nice. Richard reports Thredbo blew the cobwebs out of the guns a few days back. We're almost there.

Richard has unfortunately left Thredbo. :( Hope he can get his life back on track.
I drove out of Thredbo, alone on Friday, with the last of my possessions - emotionally, psychologically, physically and financially shattered. At this point in time I can't envisage returning to Thredbo but I do envisage that the lies will increase from the people who are the very reason I have left Thredbo.
