Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows is proud to host the Audi FIS World Cup on March 9 - 12, 2017. This marks the return of World Cup ski racing to California for the first time in 19 years. Events held will consist of a Women's Giant Slalom on Friday, March 10 and Women's Slalom on Saturday, March 11. Olympic champions like Squaw Valley’s own Julia Mancuso and Mikaela Shiffrin will compete on the legendary Red Dog run, which also played host to the 1969 World Cup and 1960 Winter Olympics.

@James Red Dog will get you to the top. I believe the chair from Squaw Creek will as well but I rarely ski over on that part of the mountain.
@Alexzn @Xela and a few others will have a little more input on this, I'm sure.

Either Red Dog from the base area or Squaw Creek from the Resort will get you to the top. Far East chair is a little remote but gets you halfway there - but it's not clear if you would be able to lap Far East. Unless they do something strange, you could lap Red Dog and get multiple good vantage points. The view from either Red Dog or Far East on the chair could be great if you time it right and go above the course when the skier is going down.

There have been other races on that hill and it works pretty well. The best view is from the bottom where you get a decent look at a large amount of the course.

This part of the mountain can be really fun skiing and terrain around the course. It's a small part of the mountain so there's a lot to ski after you have your fill of spectating.

This is GREAT, exciting news!!!

I really like what Andy Wirth says about how important it is for the young kids to see these incredible athletes live & what it means to the future of the sport :)

Is there a lift that gets you to the top of the course?

I was working at the US Nationals a couple of years ago doing course slipping when they ran the GS on Red Dog. A bit hazy but I seem to vaguely remember that the lift m,ay have been closed to athletes and course workers since the start was right at the top of the lift

Very cool! Seems like sort of a late announcement. Did this replace another race?

There is also a concern of opening a lift to the public when it travels directly over the race course at some point.

Nice video and congrats CA! If you haven't been, take the chance to go and see a WC race! Incredible skiers.

These races sorta, kinda replace the typical races in Aspen, as Aspen is hosting the FIS Alpine World Cup finals this coming season. So there were openings for other North American venues - I believe the races at Squaw Valley will be some of the last before Finals.

And don't forget that us east coasters are welcoming the FIS Alpine World Cup back to our area for the first time since the early 90s this coming Thanksgiving, with women's tech races at Killington, VT. These races are the direct replacement to the Aspen Winternational events, and hopefully they will become a more regular occurrence on this end of the continent. The USST is investing in the east (witness their funding of the Mittersill training center at Cannon Mountain, NH) after treating it as an also-ran for a long time, and pursuing FIS Alpine World Cup events is an awesome development.

That said: for folks who count on Killington having early season terrain open, methinks their snowmaking crew will be concentrating on Superstar and Highline, the two trails being used for this November's races.

Great. Was at the 1960 olympics, lots of fun. The Red Dog course is awesome. Ran SG at the Calif Police Olympics years ago on the Red Dog Course ( shorter of course but a real thrill). Enjoy yourself.

@Pete in Idaho the FIS is at Squaw at the same time that the Gathering is.
Are you thinking about the Gathering at Whistler?
