It was hard to find but I finally found this thread again so here goes:

My first skis - my welcome to Denver, hand-me-down Schuss Jrs followed by my second pair, the 150cm Sears Cherry Creek Fischer OS-5 rental.

I didn't hop on anything resembling a ski until 2008 so here's my cute little 94cm ski blades I skied on until around 2013 when I transitioned to some too short for me but way longer than my ski blades 148cm 2013 Atomic Affinity skis. Sorry this as retro as I can get. My guy still has his 205cm K2 straight skis in storage that he won't get rid of.

We rented our gear as my folks had enough money for 2 - 3 ski trips a season, but not so much that we should have skis we'd outgrow as fast as pants and shoes. hah. This picture was taken in 1984 or 85, only able to date it based on the S137 bindings and the fact I am still a stage 4 with no poles (I'm in the center). Never had a problem getting up at earlier than the paperboy to make the drive from the Springs to Copper Mtn.

Not MY first skis. THEY were some common 1940s wood skis made by Northland that were bored through sideways for a strap that went over the toes of rubber boots with street shoes inside. The ones in the picture are on display at the Breckenridge Heritage Alliance's ski museum, where I sometimes serve as a docent.

Ha ha, I was that guy for years. I still had my 205cm Elan RC SLs from high school until about 4 years ago. Hauled them around to 9 or 10 different homes in three states since the last time they saw snow. Finally my wife put her foot down that I couldn't get any more skis until I got rid of some. With a heavy heart I carried about 5 pairs to the REI recycling bin that day!

Hahaha. Michael's are just hanging in storage. He was still skiing them when we met in 2010. He finally started demoing in about 2013 and hasn't looked back but they are still in storage lol. He's joking about finding a cheap pair of bindings to throw on them. He's curious as hell how he'll feel about skiing them now since he's been on shaped skis for a few years now.
