The biggest thing for this season? I skied! The rest:
-I've skied at least 10 or 12 skis this year and can tell the difference.
-My skiing has improved a lot.
-I skied trees for the first time, at least on purpose.
-I skied powder for essentially the first time.
-I had a pretty great crash, lived to tell, and skied again in two days with a bum shoulder.
-I've met, either in person or on line, some really great folks.
-I have found my passion for skiing again!
Folks, and this is why we do this. Thank you @Andy Mink and everyone for being a part of the community.

last year awful snow season meant I got to do about 2200 runs of skiing improvement which made for some of the easiest and most smooth skiing of my entire life in this years 376 inch winter.

The reality is, it gets harder to set seasons apart, when you ski 130+ days a year, and work 90-100 of those days. I also hate taking trips for fear Ill be traveling to some place with worse snow, that I do not know as well. Next year though Kirkwood is on my radar........ill have to fly which I hate......but whatever free lift tickets.

The Good:
Skied the best bump run of my life during a clinic while skiing w/ level II & III instructors. Felt damn good too!
Got the wife back into loving the sport and being more confident after a crash and broken bone a couple of years ago!
I had a remarkable goggle tan going this year!
Had my ass handed to me a few times doing what I love!

The Bad
Got hosed my Mother Nature here in the Midwest this winter!
Both Kids outgrew boots….$$$$
Kid number one outgrew skies $$

The Ugly
Kids said they are getting bored with skiing because they do it too much. WTF! They only made it out like 30 times each this year.
Kids now pursuing boarding. Have to drag along 2-snowboards along with the usual family quiver. Killing me!
Kids said they want to do other activities while on ski vacation. Huh??? But it’s a ski vacation, not a horseback riding vacation right?
I caught a nasty case of bronchitis while skiing out west this year.
You're not alone my friend. Son complains a good bit. I say, 'Dude, this is part of your homeschool curriculum.' Hauling boards and skis and boots and food... Wouldn't trade for anything. Cheers

Fun thread!
I caught the snowiest skiing of my life during the last week of January 2017 in Utah. Something like 81" fell from Jan 21-28.
LL

I skied in western Canada for the first time, Whistler-Blackcomb to be precise. Big thanks to Gathermeisters for devoting so much time and energy to make it such a great week.

Made first visit to Glenwood Hot Springs for a romantic après'-ski swim with my wife in late February.

Drove 15000 miles. Had far fewer (but higher quality) days than normal.

Ok, I should add a few:

Finally skied Telluride
Finally toured with my brother in Silverton
Faceshotted my way down an unforgettable untracked uncrowded North Face run at Crested Butte
Skied Copper fewer than 20 days
Hit six places on the MCP (and it's not over yet ... would like to get two more in)

The good:
-- magical early season run off Northwoods at Vail
-- Unexpectedly deep day at Breck with @Doug Briggs
-- Alta trip with the Colorado Crew where it seemed like we had the place to ourselves
-- Got pitted in Highlands Bowl
-- Telluride

The bad:
-- @SkiNurse crashed, broke her liver and missed a lot of the season
-- A killer corn that made me consider selling my gear and take up knitting
I'm assuming you're not talking about corn snow.

I am really hoping for a 31 Aug/1 Sept trip! You might have a bunch of CO turns-all-year St Mary's refugees visiting....
That would be awesome!

It wasn't my deepest, and a lot fewer days than normal, but still one of my more memorable seasons:
  • Started with a bang: deep powder turns in late October... then a few days later... heli drops.
  • Learned all the ins and outs of my new home mountain.
  • Skied two areas I've wanted to ski forever (Kicking Horse and Revelstoke)
  • Party-ski heli lap with some of my best friends from college.
  • Skiing with my 13yr old dog... just xc skiing now, but still a happy dog on snow.
  • Touring in beautiful mountains with beautiful people
  • More heli-skiing!
  • Sights from my daily commute while sipping my Tim's: stunning peaks, sunrise alpenglows, moonsets, plenty of elk, and a class 4 avalanche
  • Amazing April wintery conditions at the Lake...
  • And the season is still going strong... fantastic April conditions and touring season is upon is.

Man this was a pretty big year for me:

Joined a Ski Patrol and earned my jacket.
Got to be buried as an "avalanche victim" for training for some avalanche dogs
Finally landed a back flip
Learned to land switch
Finally took an Avi 1 course
Made it to Squaw and rode some of the lines from the Squallywood book
Did my first real touring trip.

Goals for next year:
Multi-Day tour trip
Travel outside the US to ski
Make it to Mammoth
I'm sure I will come up wit more

This is my third season skiing (three in a row)
  • I got my first quiver following advice from Puggers:
    • Proper sis for my area and my abilities (Dynastar PT 89, 179cm).
    • Properly fitted boots from Snowind (@bud heishman )
  • I got lessons through the season:
    • a powder lesson with @Mark Downing
    • a few 'carving/balance) lessons with Mark and also Chris Oggerino, at Rose
    • a bumps lesson with @lswedish at DV
  • I skied with some Puggers (@ScotsSkier , @Lorenzzo ). Hope to make turns with a lot more than you.
  • Skied over 20 days already (I think I'll end in the ~25 / under 30 mark)

So, at the beginning of the season, @bud heishman told me something along the lines of "Stoked for you, this is going to be a quantum leap season". And it turned out this way. Between the lessons and the equipment, plus solid suggestions here to lose fear and start enjoying the bumps, plus proper pre-season preparation with emphasis on core and 'ski' muscles such as abductor and adductor, I can say it was a quantum leap. My TEPP point went up significantly :)

Now that the season is coming to an end, I can move with no major worries in a good chunk of the mountain, which is what this is all about. My main constraint right now is staying away from huge, hard bumps, and expert terrain in general. Or snow conditions that will make the run/terrain for the upper advanced / expert. I certainly have a ton of technique to improve. Which will in turn open the rest of the mountain, and make my skiing less ugly and more functional, in the places I already do.
