Shopping for skis

Situation. Have friend moving to St. Maries from Dallas and he is looking for new skis. I haven't kept up with skis lately so need to ask here. Will try to get some skis and bindings this summer for decent price.

Friend. 60yrs, 6'3", 233lbs. Strong and well fit. He hasn't skied a lot the past 5 yrs but will now that he will be living in No. Idaho.
I would rate him as a strong intermediate skier. He has been skiing on some old Atomics 195cm and really needs some new skis. Thinking 180cm. Just need a good all around ski. Thanks Pete

but standard advise is if he could simply wait and demo ...

Does he have a price range he's trying to stick to? What type of terrain do you expect him to be skiing? Groomers? Moguls? Trees? Open bowls? An even mix of everything?

Part of me wants to just start recommending skis, but a much bigger part of me thinks we need to dial this in a little further to really pick an appropriate ski for him.
