Do you see this as good or bad?
Honestly, I do not know, we don't have enough information yet. There are a lot of things to consider. These two shows are right on top of each other making it difficult and expensive to attend both..for both the reps/industry and the retailer. With some of the politics that are happening in Utah, OR has been getting a good amount of pushback from the environmentalists..which are the demographics of the show. In combining the shows, Utah is not big enough for the combinded show in lodging and some say the Denver facility is not big enough to hold the event. SIA signed another 10 year contract to stay in Denver so there is a commitment there, I am not sure if Emerald would be able to transfer that contract to another on of their trade shows. SIA has been in a transition with @Nick Sargent taking over and looking to progress the organization, this is a huge progression for sure.

There is talk...again nothing is confirmed...that the show could go back to Vegas, since Vegas has the facilities and lodging to do it all...all but the on snow that usually gets held just after the show. Would the on-snow go back to just regional events? I hope of of our industry insiders here might chime in. I think the 2018 show will go along as planned but 2019 is when we will see the changes in place and then we can decide if it will be good or bad.

Here is an update from the Denver Post.

Excerpt:

Snowsports Industries America, the group whose annual Snow Show trade show is booked in Denver through 2030, has reached an agreement to sell to Emerald Expositions, eliminating a final obstacle to Denver securing Emerald’s lucrative and influential summer and winter Outdoor Retailer shows.

SIA on Thursday sent its more than 1,000 members a 16-page letter detailing the $16.7 million deal that the trade group’s board unanimously approved last week. If members vote to approve the deal, the “Outdoor Retailer Snow Show” will debut in January in Denver, but future Outdoor Retailer shows in the Colorado Convention Center are still under negotiation.

SIA said the sale “ensures the best path for a vibrant, successful show.” SIA has hosted the Snow Show for more than 50 years,...

That would be $16,700 per member. Of course with lawyers fees etc much less.
So SIA ceases to exist?
Look for tie ins to summer gear in winter?
