At work more people knew me by my screen name than my real name. It was a nickname given to me & it stuck.

No one knows me anyway, so I'm not too invested in maintaining a screen name.

OTOH I'm not a renown professional who needs to protect my "brand".

I may regret having my full name exhibited, when my surname is not very common. Hey, if anyone thinks they're going to stalk me, please let me know in advance.

I'm ok with something pretty close to my real full name but not exact. I'd like stalkers to have to do a little bit of work to find me. And, I'd prefer people not use the rest of my real name in open forum discussions, only in private personal conversations.

If you ever meet someone with my last name they are a direct relative of mine. Parent, aunt, uncle or 1st cousin. And you google it you'll come up with a fairly high level person in the philanthropic world who is my uncle.

I don't think last names are necessary. It is helpful when meeting someone at the mountain to know the real name. There are still ladies on my cell phone, listed under their diva name!
