Don't discount the fact that LOTS of people have no idea how to defeat their traction control, which can make it impossible to get through/over a big berm of snow.
It's funny how different systems are "coded" so differently. Our AWD Sienna needs the system turned off for really deep snow on uphills but the Volvo XC60 just seems to figure it out (even though it only has all season tires).
I think Toyota might still be gunshy after the unintended acceleration issue.
