Has anyone sold their TDI back yet?

My wife drove the 66 Mustang, I drove the precursor to the 240Z, a Datsun 2000 roadster. The other son restored the Datsun in high school a decade ago. The younger son is currently doing the Mustang (which he got from his uncle's collection where it ended up rotting away).

Cars are going back now. This is from Reddit.

I am not overly concerned with the condition with our TDI now.

Paperwork submitted. Waiting to hear from dealer. Looks like the replacement will be a Forester, only car with rear visibility that satisfies Jane and still reasonably small. Saw a Kia Nero at a dealer, not yet for sale. I was really intrigued with the concept - small crossover hybrid with claimed 50 mpg, but failed the rear vision test, as did RAV 4 and CRV. and Prius V. Question is now new or maybe a 2015 with 20,000 mi. or so. Any other ideas about cars with a big rear greenhouse and low belt line? Pretty sure our dealer would give us a deal in a Tiguan, but no more VW for us.

I haven't bothered to submit my claim yet. No rush to take on a new car and I figure I'll let the early adopters figure everything out. I get them not being to concerned with the condition of the cars, but it seems if they start getting a bunch back that have been intentionally stripped it might cause them to change the requirements.

Thanks for posting ^, @Evansilver. I am going out today to look/feel some late model SUVs and have the same kind of list ... small, good visibility. I'll be looking at the RAV, CRV, CX-5, and Escape.

But I actually want cute, fun, and AWD ... Buick Encore, FIAT 500X.

This feels like dating. Getting into this guy's Ford Escort, headed to McDonald's. Getting whiplash every time a Harley goes by.

Just got our offer letter - $15,500 for a 2009 Jetta with about 65,000 mi. Jane is getting it notarized now, and then we have to navigate the rather confusing steps to submit it. I assume they will then tell us the procedure about returning the car and getting a check. Perhaps the check will be in the dealer's hand. I also assume they'll let us pick a dealer. We have a couple closer than the one we bought it from. Will keep you all posted.

BTW, has anyone here joined any class action suit via the lawyers who were soliciting clients? Are those folks doing any better? And the letter seems to indicate you can choose any dealer.

That seems incredibly good?

I just got a really shady offer from a Honda Dealer in the mail. Telling me to hurry and that my vehicle is worth $11k due to the settlement ... they really want to help me in receiving my benefits from the settlement. I have a 2013 and the calculations bring me to about $23k for my car.

A little more info: after you send in the acceptance letter and waiver, notarized, you can then choose your dealer. When you bring in the car and title, you can either get an etf into your bank account or a check. I asked the dealership where we bought it if we could just use the TDI as a trade at the value in the letter, to save on the PA 6 per cent sales tax, but they won't do that.

What's VW going to do with all these cars? Fix and try to sell? Ship them as is to Africa? Scrap?

I don't know what they'll do with the older, non-DEF cars, but one salesman at our dealer told us he owns a '14 Passat and is hoping to sell it back and after they fix it, buy it back for less. I don't know if they'll be fixing the DEF cars that are sold back or not but it would make sense if the only thing they need to do is a programming change. IF that is the only thing.

My tire shop guy told me some woman is buying a new 2015 TDI directly from Volkswagen, not from the dealer? That was odd to me because the dealer had told me they had 17 TDI's on the lot a few months back that people were trying to put deposits on. So, either they've now moved them all (?) or this is some fixed version? Pretty sure he meant unused though, given the surrounding discussion.

I overheard a guy who has a friends barber's third cousing (twice removed) from a previous marriage to a retired coleminers hairdresser's (yes, I know it is a coincidence) son who is doing the same exact thing. So, it must be true.

I had no idea you were in that Mens Room when that "guy who has .................who is doing the exact same thing." was talking so loud. Could hear him clearly over the water running, so to speak.

All paperwork accepted and appointment made for return, but they won't do it until first week in January! Guess VW wants to hold onto their money as long as possible. When we turn it in will they care anything about stuff like floor mats? Jane took hers out the day she brought the car home and they haven't been used, so I thought I'd try to put them on Craigslist. Will also list a set of factory roof crossbars which came from Craigslist anyhow.

Replacement will be a new Forester with Eyesight. Made the deal today, more than a grand under invoice, which really surprised me considering how popular Foresters are around here, but I guess nobody buys cars during the holidays.

My coworker has 2 Datsun Roadsters. Primitive by today's standards, but cool little cars. And I mean little! :)

I'm holding on to mine and milking some free mileage and months out of mine before turning it in. We'll get the same $ in a year as we will now. In the meantime, I drove a GTI when I was at the dealers and ended up buying a barely-used 2016 for $20K to replace the other car. The GTI is da BOMB! I can fit my bike and my skis inside no problem and it goes like a scalded cat with its claws out.

Finally returned the '09 Jetta TDI yesterday. Final figure after inspection was $15,350 for a car with70,000 mi. We kept the new Forester in the garage till we used up all the fuel in the VW. Will get to try it in the inch of new snow today. Saw an Alltrack at the dealer- about the same price as the Forester, but the poor rear visibility was a dealbreakerfor Jane, and she likes sitting up high again. I can't believe all the instructional literature you get these days with a new car. Four different quick-start manuals of about 100 pages each, and the full manual of about 500.

Turning in my '12 Passat TDI SE at 6:30pm tonight - estimate was $17k with 89,000 miles. We'll see how the chips fall with the final number.

My wife turned in her 2014 TDI Golf last night. We are getting about $5800 back after the balance of the loan is paid off, which equates to approx. $25K total including the restitution. The only "downgrade" we made to the car was 15" BBS rims with snow tires off of my daughter's 2009 Rabbit (she got the snows from the Golf, and we kept the Golf rims for snows on her new Alltrack). With the Alltrack she saw an indicated 33 mpg on her commute home last night, not bad for under 1000 miles on the odo and snow tires on. We had some ice and snow mix on the roads yesterday morning...she tried her best to spin the tires, but could not make it happen
