Just returned from a week in Courmayeur. Avalanche killed three and injured a handful yesterday. Just to point out – I wasn't near the accident or even skiing when it happened and what I "know" comes from the word on the street and the news. But there were zero base and very warm weather earlier in the week and then heavy snowfall for 48 hours. Strong winds created big snow pockets. Extremely treacherous conditions. The accident took place near Plan de la Gabba, in Val Veny, which has a few famous off piste routes. Don't know the exact location there. Not 100% sure of nationalities of the three, but I hear Belgian, British and German. Sad news.
