This poster has been hanging in my furnace room for years. I think it was an insert in Ski Racing Magazine in the 1980s.
I still have these bindings and skied them up until about 2011 for about 20 years. They are still in great condition. And I still take them out.

The relationship with M48R was not without issues at the being as as I had to adjust to the damn Biometric toe. Until I understood that hanging in on the toe and lean back was bad as this triggered a release I turn up the DIN as high as it would go in effort stay in. After several years I finally figured it out and then skied at close to what my DIN is today. Newer Markers are not as sensitive as these were.

I was talking with Phil the other day about my first backcountry setup. Here it is. From the lack of images of the M3-S I'm guessing it was short lived. I don't know whether the touring version of the Rotamat heel was sold with a specific toe piece or not. This set came to me from my sister as is.

I toured on these on Mt. Washington in the 80s. The ski was great for the day, the binding left a lot to be desired. It probably was one reason I got into telemark shortly thereafter.

in tour mode. The range of movement is pretty limited by today's standards. Also, there is no heel lift for steeps.

So I was picking up my skis from the ski rack after a short stop at the bar this afternoon and in the rack next to my skis were these old timers. So I shot this quick photo before the owner returned.

picked these up today, new never mounted. missing the AFD's and one of the toe piece clips. I think I can retro fit some extra salomon AFD's and I can machine a new clip.
unless someone needs these for a collection. I would trade for a set or two of LOOK nevada/N17's . pics of all the mounting and adjustment instructions for future reference. even an unused mounting template!

I think I have a good pair of Marker AFD's that will fit if you want them just for the price of shipping? Let me dig them out of my stuff and I will put up a photo.

Here are a few photos of the bindings on some old Head skis that I posted about in the Head thread. Simplex toes with non-releasing heels dating back to step 2 of the timeline in the first post. I think they're actually "proto-roto-mats" rather than Rotomats. The springs' function is just forward pressure on the toes and heel retention, not release. I guess it wasn't until the next step that the Marker engineers realized, "Hey, we could make these springs pop out of their housings at some point, which would make the binding release by disassembling itself."

A quick jump to step 4 of the opening timeline: into the pre-DIN "Explodomat" era. I used these from the mid-'70s all the way through the '80s, when they were followed by the non-explosive update in the last photo, which is way over at step 14 or something of the timeline.

Complete with Lipe Slider (with rubber belt still intact after 40+ years) and after-market ski brakes (safety straps were still de rigeur at the time). By the c. 1990 iteration, the AFD and brakes were, of course, integrated.

I don't recall the M15 Sensomatic.
My M40 Racings have black writing
That M36 is not the Twincam toe with sliding AFD

Obviously more SMU variations. If these were any other type of collectables....they would be worth a ton. ;)
