Ohhhh - do I add in the out-of-pocket to get my knee fixed? I probably would have just lived without an ACL if I didn't ski.

Cost includes all ski gear, clothing and accessories and and travel costs (transport, tickets and lodging).

Average during family years late 1980's through mid-1990's was 55 days of skiing (24 of them mine) distributed among 4 family members and annual cost in the ballpark of $5-6K per year.

In 1997 I started to raise my skiing a bit with annual Canada trips including some cat/heli time. My average increased to 28 days and $8,700 per year.

In 2004 I got divorced, so from 2005-2010 I averaged 45 days and $15,400 per year.

I retired late in 2010 and met my ski partner in crime Liz in early 2011. Since 2011 I have averaged 64 days and $21,700 per year.

I won't get to do it, I'm sure, but if I could ski one day a week for the season I think I could still do it for under $1000. Taking my granddaughter along might push it a little over that.

Well, let's see, there's the Epic Pass and the Mountain Collective pass, so there's $1,100 sunk, then a pair of FX104's and a pair of FX95's that (of course) I could pass up at the end of the season, so there's another $1500. The storage locker at WB is $50/month, so add another $600, and now the real fun starts.

First trip will be to WB in December, and that's coming in around $1800, and then SLC in early Jan for another $1000. They'll be 4-5 more trip during the season, so I won't get much change from $10k. No biggee, yoiu can't take it with you, and it's pretty cheap for the amount of enjoyment and memories.

Since we live at Tahoe, I have no lodging, travel or food expenses related to skiing (have to eat anyway, so I don't count chili or a sandwich on the mtn; and at 12 and 30 miles, respectively to Nstar and Squaw, gas cost is negligible), This makes it's hard to put a number on it. But last season (well I'm still skiing at Squaw and maybe Mammoth so it's not over yet) total expenses were Epic Local pass and Squaw Senior Gold pass around $900 so with about 100 days in that's $9 a day. I did have Phil custom fit my Head Raptors for $200 to get rid of an ankle problem and picked up a pair of new AX's w/bindings for 1/2 price ($800), but the skis where done after the season had closed for everyone except Squaw and Mammoth, so I'm counting it as next year. Speaking of next year, Mary will be working at Nstar ticket office again, so my full Epic Pass will be free. Yes, I know, it's a tough life.

Lol. You can't be that precise. You seriously know how much you spend each year?
You must be hard to live with. "Liz you've averaged 11 minutes per shower for the last three months which equates to 31 gallons of water per shower - no wonder our water bill has increased by 17% since the last bill".

Good news.. Think I've already got the gear covered for everyone.. Bad news... both kids will be teenagers and probably fall under adult lift prices now..

10 day trips to places within 200 miles of home with a kid or two=$2,000
One 3 day weekend Mid Atlantic Gathering family ski house somewhere a little farther =$1,000. Not bad for 3 days slopeside!

Somewhere around three grand,,

Epic Pass: $700
Loveland 4 pack: $130
Copper 4 pack: $150
New boots: $6-700 (likely either Lupo TI ID or Tecnica Cochise 130)
Warrantied ski pants: (hopefully $0)
Fresh goggle lenses: $100
SW CO Trip -- Wolf Creek (1 day), Opus Hut (2 nights), Silverton (1 day): $600-700 with gas/van supplies
New Kincos: $20

Season goal: NO NEW SKIS. 25-30 days inbounds, 20 days in the BC.

That's $2500 exactly. So my actual costs will probably be about $4000.

Tony is a numbers guy.

I love data too, so I understand it, but I'm not organized enough to collect the data. (And when it comes to skiing budget, a ittle ignorance can be a good lubricant.)

Tony was/is an actuary.....he tracks everything. My neighbor was an actuary, he was the same way. One time he told me exactly how many times I had mowed my grass over the last 3 years.

You can spread gear costs out over several seasons.. 5-10 for boots, 2-4 for goggles

Love where I live 300 for pass, 250 gas, 30 miles round trip, 250 for beer and 160 on new bindings for skis that will not be bought for another season or two. Gas & beer based on 50 days.
